Hugo Münzner (born February 24, 1840 in Obergruna ; † November 20, 1925 ) was a German engineer and manufacturer .

Life

Hugo Münzner began studying mechanical engineering at the Dresden Polytechnic in 1858 . After a two-year internship from Easter 1861 to Easter 1863, he continued his studies at the Zurich Polytechnic from the 1863 summer semester to the 1864 summer semester , where he became a member of the Baltica Zurich in April 1863 . In the winter semester of 1864/1865 he moved to the Polytechnic in Karlsruhe , where he completed his degree in mechanical engineering in July 1865.

After completing his studies, he became an engineer in his father's machine factory FA Münzner in Obergruna. In 1872 he took over the management of the company as a co-owner, which supplied sawmills , mining companies , smelting works and paper mills in Europe, America and Japan with special machines. The Münzner safety catch device developed by him on mining cages achieved a worldwide reputation and was not only mentioned in specialist articles and specialist dictionaries, but also in contemporary editions of general dictionaries.

The machine factory was run as a family business for two more generations before it was nationalized as VEB Bergbauausüstungen Obergruna in 1972 and privatized again by the trust in 1991. Today it operates under the name Hofmeister Maschinen- und Stahlbau GmbH .
