Hugo Onjerth (born June 17, 1923 in Vienna , † March 29, 1995 in Klosterneuburg ) was an Austrian brigadier and long-time organizer of the UN operations of the armed forces.

Onjerth served in the engineer force on various fronts during World War II, finishing as a lieutenant. After imprisonment and working in a civilian profession, he was taken on as a first lieutenant in the second federal army on April 1, 1957. He first served as a teacher at the pioneer troop school. He received special recognition as the commander of the "Maturanten-Company" of the pioneer troop. After completing the 4th General Staff Course and a course at the École d'État Major in Paris, he was transferred to the General Troop Inspectorate. On July 1, 1967, he became a major.

From 1970 to 1988 he was the organizer of the UN operations of the Austrian Armed Forces and head of the UN section of the General Staff Department, the "home base" of the deployed units. His in-depth knowledge of the operating conditions, in particular of the UNAB / UNFICYP (United Nations Austrian Battalion / United Nations Force in Cyprus) in the buffer zone between Greeks and Turks, and of the AUSBATT / UNDOF (Austrian Battalion / United Nations Disengagement Observer Force) on the Golan Heights and on Mount Hermon between Syria and Israel was just as legendary as his tireless commitment to the welfare of the soldiers deployed. He was also responsible for those Austrian observer officers who were active throughout the Middle East within the framework of UNTSO (United Nations Truce Supervision Organization) . In 1978 he was promoted to colonel and retired as a brigadier in 1988. His nickname "Abu Ausatt" ("Father of the Austrian Battalion") testified to the recognition of his work by the troops.
