Hugo Wilhelm von Waldthausen (born May 10, 1853 in Essen , † January 28, 1931 in Wiesbaden ) was a German industrialist .

Life

Hugo Wilhelm von Waldthausen came from the Essen patrician and industrial family Waldthausen . He was the youngest of seven children of the businessman Jobst Wilhelm von Waldthausen and Henriette Luise Ahrens. After finishing school, he studied engineering at RWTH Aachen University . Here he joined the Corps Rhenania , which received him in the summer semester of 1875.

In 1887, together with the Dortmund chemist Dr. Ernst Wirth and the Werner engineer Otto Schulz founded the chemical factory Dr. Wirth, Waldthausen u. Schulz , who made tar products, road tar, pitch , raw naphthalene and carbolineum from coal tar . In 1918 the factory was sold to the Ludwigshafen company Raschig , which still produces in Werne today.

Services to the common good

From 1895 to 1900 Hugo Wilhelm von Waldthausen Werner was a local councilor and from 1900 to 1916 the community leader of Werne. In 1903 he donated the fourth and largest bell of the Evangelical Church in Bochum-Werne and in 1913 10,000 marks to the fund for the establishment of a gymnasium with bathing facilities in the municipality of Werne.

  • For his services to the common good, Hugo Wilhelm von Waldthausen was appointed royal councilor of commerce .
  • Von-Waldthausen-Strasse was named after him in Werne in 1929 .
