Werne is a district in Bochum and is located between Langendreer and Harpen .

Werne is about 6 kilometers east of Bochum city center. The place borders on the districts of Gerthe in the north, Harpen in the northwest, Laer in the west and Langendreer in the south. In the east, Werne borders the city of Dortmund with the district of Lütgendortmund .

history

Werne used to be an important mining town with the coal mines Zeche Amalia , Zeche Heinrich Gustav , Zeche Mansfeld , Zeche Robert Müser and Zeche Vollmond . Werne was incorporated into Bochum on August 1, 1929.

Werner citizens meet at the Werner Sparkasse, the Aldi-Markt on Werner Hellweg, the senior citizens' home in the street "Auf der Kiekbast" with many events, in summer the outdoor pool in Werne, which is also popular with foreigners, the youth club CVJM or other leisure clubs, for example the Erich Brühmann House. The Werner Teich and Werner Park are well worth seeing.

You can easily reach the Ruhr-Park shopping center from Werne . There are good shopping opportunities in the center of the district on Werner Hellweg .

Education

The Willy-Brandt-Gesamtschule about 1,300 offers students the opportunity to various degrees ( High , Middle school , High School ) to obtain. The lower and middle school classes are housed at the location on Wittekindstrasse. The upper school classes at the school's remote location on Straße Deutsches Reich.

Werner elementary schools are the Amtmann-Kreyenfeld-Schule and the Von-Waldthausen-Schule.

Public transport

Werne is well connected to local public transport. The bus routes 345, 355, 364, 366, 370, 372 and 379 run through the district. In the neighboring district of Langendreer there are two S-Bahn stops that are served by the S1 Dortmund – Düsseldorf – Solingen line of the Rhein-Ruhr S-Bahn . In neighboring Lütgendortmund there is another S-Bahn stop, which is served by the S4 Lütgendortmund-Dortmund-Unna line.

In the north of Werne the A40 motorway runs along, which connects Bochum city center and Dortmund. Entrances and exits are located in the northeast on the city limits to Dortmund and in the north at the Ruhrpark. The A43 motorway also passes Werne to the west. There is also a connection point there. The motorways connect Bochum-Werne to the federal road network across the region.
