Rosenberg (Bochum)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rosenberg is a large housing estate in the Harpen district in the north-east of Bochum , built from 1965. It borders the village of Harpen in the south-east, the Castroper Hellweg in the west and the former colliery colony of the Lothringen IV colliery in the south-west, the Autobahn 43 , in the north to the industrial area Josef-Baumann-Straße and thus to Gerthe .

Urban development

The first streets with mostly flat buildings were laid out around 1960. From 1965, high-rise buildings in particular were built here. 1300 apartments for around 4000 residents were built. The operator is VBW Bauen und Wohnen .

One of the leisure options was the Nordbad with an outdoor pool. The indoor pool was closed in 1988, the outdoor pool in 2003; then the bathroom was demolished. The "Am Nordbad" sports facility, built after 1970 and used by the "Blau-Weiß Grümerbaum 1919" football club, is still there. This in turn is named after the colliery colony.

In 2016, 400 refugees will be resettled in containers on the wasteland of the former Nordbad . In January 2016, the Bochum City Council decided to buy residential containers for 12.6 million euros.

school

The "Rosenberg School", which was a primary school, was part of the Rosenbergsiedlung from the start - and continues to this day. Around 2004/2005, the "Werner-von-Siemens" secondary school, which was previously also located in Gerthe, was built next to it. It moved into both existing buildings and two new extensions, but all in all there was a large shared playground with the “Rosenberg School”. The volleyball department of TV Gerthe 1911 is at home in the school's gym .
