Leithe is a district of Bochum in the Wattenscheid district .

Before it was incorporated into Wattenscheid on April 1, 1926, the district was officially referred to as Leithe (Westf.) And in documents often also referred to as Westphalian Leithe . Part of the dissolved community was reclassified to Gelsenkirchen. Through the incorporation of Wattenscheid, Leithe came to Bochum on January 1, 1975. The Rhenish Leithe is on the other side of the Leither Bach .

The former Schulte Kemna grain distillery is located on the outskirts of Essen and produced, among other things, the Westphalian clear wheat schnapps .

On Gelsenkirchener Strasse, in the front garden of the Evangelical Congregation, there is a 1.5-ton monument of the steel casting process of bells, with which the Bochum Association gained its great fame. The "Auguste Viktoria" bell was cast in 1893 and exhibited at the 1894 World's Fair in Chicago. It was later donated by its namesake, Empress Auguste Viktoria, to the Berlin Gnadenskirche for inauguration. Thanks to the Berlin pastor Merkel, the bell escaped destruction in a junkyard where it landed after the Second World War and after the destruction of the church. The bell came to Leithe on March 2, 1990, via detours through private property in Berlin and Thuringia.

The local soccer club Rot Weiß Leithe currently plays in the district league.
