Eppendorf is a southern part of the Wattenscheid district of Bochum .

history

Eppendorf goes back to an old farming community called Abbingthorpe, which was characterized by two large farms (Thiemann and Beckhaus) and some cottages . The abbot of the Werden monastery owned the tithe and distributed the wood righteous in the Eppendorfer Mark.

In the Middle Ages, Eppendorf was part of the Bochum office and was the location of one of the three places of execution (Galberg) of the office on Thie , the old meeting place.

Around 1816, Eppendorf became part of the Wattenscheid office in the Prussian province of Westphalia . A census in 1838 showed that Eppendorf had developed into a place with 713 inhabitants and 195 houses. Today's primary school was opened in 1887. On July 29, 1891, 39 community members founded the Eppendorf Volunteer Fire Brigade .

With the dissolution of the Bochum district through the law on the reorganization of communal borders in the Rhenish-Westphalian industrial districts , Eppendorf was divided into the independent cities of Wattenscheid (2.95 km 2 ) and Bochum (1.33 km 2 ) on April 1, 1926 . With the incorporation of Wattenscheid on January 1, 1975, Eppendorf became part of the city of Bochum, but is still administered via the Wattenscheid district (district 2).
