Location of Gervershagen in Marienheide

Gervershagen is a district of the Marienheide community in the Oberbergisches Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Location and description

The place is about six kilometers from the community center.

In the small village in the middle of the forest near the Brucher dam is the forester's house of the Gervershagener Forst . With around 450 hectares, it is the largest contiguous forest area in the Marienheide community.

history

In 1289 Gervershagen is mentioned for the first time in a written document as a Cologne allodial property (own property). In 1450, a Rutger Mester from Gervershagen (Gerbertzhagen) was granted the privilege to run an iron mine on the "Stuelinckhueser broick" (Stülinghauser Bruch, today in the Brucher dam).

In the 17th century the von Neuhoff, called Ley, acquired it by marrying the von Möllenbeck family. The Counts of Schwarzenberg bought it in the 17th century. Around 1600 Gervershagen is one of 7 manors belonging to the Neustadt Office . There is nothing left of defenses, the manor house from the 18th century is a two-storey, plastered quarry stone building with a crooked hip roof.

In the 19th century, Count von Merveldt sold the goods belonging to Gimborn , including Gervershagen, which after repeated changes of ownership around 1870 became the property of the Counts of Spee zu Schloss Heltorf . Until 1860 the Gervershagen estate was mainly used for agriculture, only after that the reforestation of today's Gervershagener Forst took place.

The forest runs through the L306 state road as a feeder to the 45 federal motorway . It leads from Rodt to Meinerzhagen . This road was built around 1975. It replaces an old, narrow street between Müllenbach and Holzwipper , which had a similar route but ended near Holzwipper train station.

Forest history

Heinrich Dohmen (1829–1914) was a forester in Gervershagen from 1860. He was put into "well-deserved retirement" by the Count von Spee on August 1, 1907 (letter of July 20, 1907). In recognition of his services, he continued to receive full salary, domiciliary rights and rights of use for the house and garden.
