Location of Erlinghagen in Marienheide

Erlinghagen is a village in the municipality of Marienheide in the Oberbergisches Kreis , North Rhine-Westphalia .

Location and description

The place is seven kilometers southwest of the community center in the Leppetal . The place is elongated and consists of two parts, "Unter-Erlinghagen" and "Ober-Erlinghagen". Erlinghagener Straße connects the two districts and leads from Leppestraße in the Leppetal over the mountain, where the main town is located, to Gimborn .

Untererlinghagen

The lower part of the village lies at around 250-280 m above sea level on the slope near Leppestrasse on Erlinghagener Strasse.

In Untererlinghagen there is a hobby goat farmer and a fish farm.

There is a hiking car park created by the village community between the two districts (approx. 295 m above sea level).

Obererlinghagen

The capital located further up is at around 280-340 m.

The historic ravine, through which one arrives at the "highest" (the name of the mountain, 349 m above sea level), was to be drawn in as part of the Berghausen III land consolidation. It is thanks to the village community that it still exists. In the meantime, native trees and bushes have been planted in the upper part of the path to further strengthen the character of the ravine. On the highest, where you can enjoy an excellent view, the village community has replaced an old, weathered refuge with a new one in recent years. Immediately next to it, the village youth uses a wood storage area as a football field.

On the hill at the exit towards Gimborn there is a wayside shrine with a cross. The construction of this cross was the reason that in 1965 the villagers officially joined together to form the “Erlinghagen Village Community”.

In a beech and oak grove in the center of the village there is a playground and the so-called village square. This is used by the village community for joint activities, such as the village festival.

There has been no grocery store or restaurant in Erlinghagen for years. Several vendors sell groceries such as bakery products and eggs in vans.

There are no more farms in the village itself. The last farmer in the village had already leased his business in the early 80s. Today the agricultural areas around Erlinghagen are cultivated by farmers from Jedinghagen and Winkel or by hobby horse breeders. There are two beekeepers in the village with a total of around 20 beehives.

history

In 1468 the place was mentioned twice in documents. "Ailff Yrlinckhagen" is mentioned in a letter from the Cologne jury to the jury of Neustadt. In the receipts of the Steinbach office on Thursday, the feast of John the Baptist, master mason Claes van Erlinckhain is mentioned, who came to Neuenberg Castle and stayed there for 52 days.

The village of Erlinghagen belonged to the imperial rule of Gimborn-Neustadt until 1806 . After belonging to the Grand Duchy of Berg (1806-1813) and a provisional transitional administration , the region came to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1815 on the basis of the agreements made at the Congress of Vienna . Under the Prussian administration, the place first belonged to the Gimborn district (1816–1825) and then to the Gummersbach district in the Rhine Province . In 1843 Erlinghagen had 146 inhabitants (109 Catholic and 37 Protestant) who lived in 30 houses.

Until the district reorganization in 1975 , Erlinghagen belonged to the municipality of Gimborn with the then municipality capital Hülsenbusch. The new district was dissolved and Erlinghagen was assigned to the Marienheide community.

Village community Erlinghagen

The Erlinghagen community came into being in 1965. The reason was the construction of the new cross on the hill at the entrance to Gimborn. The goal of the village community is to strengthen the community in the village. This happens through the offered festivals, but also through joint work assignments in the village.

The best example for the community was a demonstration on Leppestrasse in order to mitigate the traffic situation in the area where the Erlinghagener Strasse joins Leppestrasse, as serious traffic accidents occurred time and again. This action was also taken up by the press and by Radio Berg . There was a partial success: The junction area was defused with relatively simple means and several bus stops were relocated so that the way to school has become safer for the children. What the village community is still missing is a speed limit on "Leppestrasse", which was originally planned by the State Road Construction Agency in North Rhine-Westphalia , but its implementation is still pending.

Other joint activities and festivals within the village community are:

  • Tying and decorating door wreaths for silver and gold weddings . As a thank you, the respective bridal couple usually invites them to a small or larger celebration.
  • The hiking group: On Tuesday afternoons retirees and retirees meet to hike for a few hours around Erlinghagen. On special occasions, a hiking route on the Ahr or the Rhine is also chosen.
  • Some women meet regularly in the mornings for Nordic walking .
  • Once a month (Friday or Saturday), joint work is carried out in the village to maintain the appearance of the village.
  • Since the 2006 soccer World Cup in Germany, major sporting events have been broadcast regularly on a screen on the village square. Often there is a barbecue together and drinks are offered.
  • Traditional dance in May with the setting of the maypole and the May fire.
  • Traditional Whitsun singing : Originally this is a custom of male youth, but for some years now men, women and children have been going from house to house on Whitsunday or Monday to sing the song “Feine-Rose-Blümelein” for eggs, which then to be eaten together in the evening.
  • Village festival every two years
  • Parade of the children to St. Martin ( Martinssingen ): One evening during the week of St. Martin's Day, the children go from house to house with lanterns and torches to "sing" candy with St. Martin's songs, which are then divided up.
  • “Anknippsfest” on the 1st Advent: The fir tree in the village center is decorated with lights for Advent and then ceremoniously “switched on” as part of this rather small festival. This festival has only developed in recent years, even if the fir tree has been decorated annually for much longer.
