Munscheid was a small community whose area today belongs to the independent Westphalian city of Bochum .

geography

location

Munscheid was a community of only 24 hectares. Within the district of Gelsenkirchen , it was in the extreme southeast. It was the municipality of this district that came into contact with the three-district corner with the district of Bochum and the district of Hattingen .

Neighboring communities

In 1897, before there was a large number of incorporations in the Ruhr area due to the rapidly increasing population, the municipality Munscheid bordered (clockwise, starting in the northwest) on Höntrop , Eppendorf (both in the district of Gelsenkirchen), Weitmar (district of Bochum) and Linden and Dahlhausen (both in the Hattingen district), which formed the short-lived community of Linden-Dahlhausen in 1921 .

history

Munscheid was an independent municipality that initially belonged to the Bochum district. On May 24, 1876, the day Bochum was separated, this district officially became the Bochum district . The population of this district rose steadily, so that on July 1, 1885, large parts of the area had to be ceded to the new districts of Gelsenkirchen and Hattingen. Munscheid was awarded to the district of Gelsenkirchen, which was officially renamed the district of Gelsenkirchen on April 1, 1897, when Gelsenkirchen was evacuated .

On April 1, 1926, the municipality of Munscheid was dissolved by the law on the reorganization of municipal boundaries in the Rhenish-Westphalian industrial districts and incorporated into the city of Wattenscheid . Munscheid has belonged to Bochum since January 1, 1975, the day Wattenscheid was incorporated.
