Hugues Thierry Occansey (born December 18, 1966 in Moyeuvre-Grande ) is a former French basketball player .

career

Occansey played in the youth division of SIG Strasbourg , in 1982 he moved to the youth performance center of CSP Limoges . He played for the CSP men's team from 1983 to 1988. During this time he won the French championship three times (1984, 1985, 1988) and in 1988 the European Cup Winners' Cup . In the Korać Cup , the 2.01-meter-long winger reached the finals with CSP in 1987, but they both lost to FC Barcelona .

He left Limoges in 1988 for the Olympique d'Antibes . Occansey won the championship with Antibes in 1991, in the 1991/92 season he was the best local scorer in the league with 21.5 points per match and was named the best winger in the league (named by the specialist magazine Maxi-Basket ). He stayed in Antibes until 1993.

Occansey returned to Limoges after one year at Montpellier Paillade Basket (1993/94) and Jet Lyon (1994/95). In contrast to his stations in Antibes, Montpellier and Lyon, he was much less popular in attack in Limoges, and his points yield dropped significantly. Occansey, who was able to fill any position due to his versatility, moved abroad for the first time at the age of 32, he played from 1998 to 2000 at Peristeri Athens in Greece and in the first half of the 2000/01 season at Pamesa Valencia in Spain. In January 2001 he returned to his home country, ended the playing year at ALM Évreux and played in his last year as a professional basketball player in 2001/02 at his home club SIG Strasbourg.

With France's national team, he took part in the European Championships in 1991 and 1995, he played a total of 107 international matches.

Occansey coached Limoges CSP from 2004 to 2006, was assistant coach of ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne in 2006/07 , in 2007 assistant coach for Ivory Coast , was chief coach of BBC Nyon in Switzerland in 2008/09 , and in 2009 for the association of Mali (among other things he was in charge of the country's national team at the African Cup of Nations) and from 2015 head coach of the Ivory Coast. He was responsible for the selection at the 2015 and 2017 African Championships. Occansey remained the Ivory Coast coach until 2017.
