Hugues Renson (born February 11, 1978 in Paris ) is a French politician ( La République En Marche ! , LREM). He has been one of the Vice-Presidents of the French National Assembly since June 28, 2017 .

Studies and professional career

He graduated from Sciences Po in 2001 . He became adviser to President Jacques Chirac (2004–2007) on social issues.

Political career

In the 2012 presidential election , Renson publicly supported the Socialist Party candidate François Hollande . Accordingly, he campaigned for the socialist candidate Anne Hidalgo in the 2014 local elections in Paris .

Renson later joined La République en Marche . In the 2017 election to the National Assembly , he was elected in the Paris XIII constituency. The former representative of the constituency of Jean-François Lamour from the Republicans lost the election. He took up his post as a Member of Parliament on June 21, and a week later he was already one of the six Vice-Presidents of the National Assembly, unusual for a Member who is sitting in Parliament for the first time. He is a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs.

In the run-up to the 2020 local elections in Paris, Renson failed to be nominated as a candidate to dethrone Hidalgo. In the following years he supported the candidacy of Cédric Villani .

When the new Écologie Démocratie Solidarité group was founded in May 2020, Renson showed strong sympathy for its members and for their cause in general. However, he said the struggle should be waged within the group. The extent of the current crisis is also beyond the feeling of responsibility. At the same time he worked on the establishment of a current within the LREM faction. This group gave itself the name "En commun"; 45 members of the group joined her. The official foundation took place on May 22, 2020.

Voting behavior

In May 2018, Renson sponsored an initiative to legalize artificial insemination for all women (women living alone, as well as women in heterosexual or lesbian relationships).

In late 2018, a group led by Renson, Aurélien Taché and Matthieu Orphelin formed of around 20 members of the LREM faction in the National Assembly, demanding that the group should better express humanist, social and environmental sensitivities and that the needs and concerns of citizens should be more serious to take. The establishment of this internal party movement was widely seen as the establishment of a left wing in the faction.

In July 2019, Renson voted to ratify the European Union's Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) with Canada .
