Hull Paragon

The Hull and Holderness Railway was a railway line in the northern English county of East Riding of Yorkshire . It connected Kingston upon Hull via the southern Holderness with the seaside resort Withernsea on the North Sea coast and was in operation from 1854 to 1964.

history

The construction of the railway line was initiated by Anthony Bannister, a businessman from Hull. His idea was to open up the agriculturally valuable Holderness plain by building the line and to promote the conversion of the coastal town of Withernsea into a seaside resort.

The railway line was officially opened on June 26, 1854. Initially, the trains were at the station Victoria Dock off since 1864 but was moved to the starting point on the station Paragon of North Eastern Railway .

In 1964, the route was the saving plans of British Rail victim, so that the last passenger train on 19 October of that year wrong on it. Goods were transported on the entire route until May 3, 1965, but only to Hedon until 1968 , and only to Marfleet before the railway line was completely closed in 1972.
