The village church in Eickelberg , a district of the Warnow municipality in the Rostock district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, is a Gothic brick building from the 14th century. It is one of the churches of the Baumgarten parish in the Rostock provost in the Mecklenburg parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany ( Northern Church ).

Building description

Originally from the beginning of the 14th century, nave, tower loose and the brick Gothic attributable sacred building has a three-sided Ostschluss and by buttresses reinforced. The interior has a flat wooden ceiling. In the north and south facade there are ogival, walled portals . The existence of former sacristy extensions can be seen on both sides . The portal on the east gable, which was renewed at the beginning of the 20th century, forms the entrance to the church. The windows are also pointed. The church bell is located in a free-standing belfry in the cemetery next to the church.

In 2010 the church was classified as in need of renovation. The building was riddled with cracks right down to the foundation. Emergency safety measures were planned for 2010. The masonry showed cracks and defects. There was also damage to the pillars, windows and floors. The interior could only be used to a limited extent.

In the following years, the church building was completely renovated and re-inaugurated on September 30, 2018.

Interior

The few preserved furnishings in the church include a late Romanesque granite fountain , two grave slabs of the von Lützow family in the Renaissance style, two K. v. Epitaphs dedicated to Lützow , one with relief representations (around 1590) and the pulpit from the end of the 16th century, which was remodeled at the beginning of the 20th century. Remnants of the prospectus testify to the formerly existing organ.

history

An Eickelberg parish was first mentioned in a document in 1287.

The church building originally had a tower that presumably collapsed and the remains of which were removed around 1780. Instead, a small extension for two bells was set up at the western end of the roof. The vibrations caused by the ringing of the bells caused damage to the masonry, so that in 1902 a free-standing bell cage was built and the east gable was renewed.

In 2010 the parishes Baumgarten, Qualitz and Zernin merged to form the parish Baumgarten with a parish in Baumgarten.
