The HumanOptics AG is a listed German manufacturer of eye implants, based in Erlangen . Another production facility is located in Sankt Augustin .
history
In mid-1999, Karl Klamann and Khalil Hanna founded HumanOptics GmbH in Erlangen. Half a year later the GmbH was converted into a stock corporation. HumanOptics has developed the world's first foldable artificial iris , with which a destroyed eye can be restored visually and aesthetically. The company's core business is the manufacture of lens implants. The first successful implantation of an accommodative lens took place in June 2000 at the Eye Clinic of the University Hospital Erlangen . The product was launched in autumn 2001. The lens had already been used 1,000 times worldwide by 2002. By 2003, 10,000 artificial lenses had been implanted by HumanOptics worldwide.
In 2001 HumanOptics acquired the Dr. Schmidt Intraocularlinsen GmbH in Sankt Augustin, which has been manufacturing artificial lenses for the human eye for 35 years.
HumanOptics shares have been traded in the Entry Standard of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange since July 2006 .
The company has been managed by Pierre Billardon as CEO and CEO since January 10, 2017 .

- In 2002, HumanOptics was awarded the German Entrepreneur Award in the category of climbers .
- In 2003, entrepreneur Karl Klamann was named Entrepreneur of the Year in the Start-Up category.
