history

On March 14, 1893, with Le Droit Humain, modern freemasonry for men and women came into being. This grand lodge established lodges all over the world in the following years. On the occasion of an Esperanto congress in Frankfurt am Main , the first Le Droit Humain lodge in Germany with the name "Goethe" was founded in 1921 . Further lodges in Hamburg ("Hamsa", 1924) and Berlin ("To the knowledge", 1928) followed. The lodges were inactive during the Nazi period 1933–45.

The lodges Goethe zum Flammenden Stern in Frankfurt, Pythagoras in Darmstadt and Henri Dunant in Munich, which were re-established after the Second World War , left Le Droit Humain and merged on October 24, 1959 to form the Grand Lodge Humanitas for men and women . The Hamsa lodge initially remained with Le Droit Humain , but founded the Grand Masonic lodge for men and women in 1993 together with the Berlin lodge Zur Knowledge , the Heidelberg lodge Zum Geistigen Licht (later renamed Carpe Diem! ) And a spin-off from the Karlsruhe lodge Zur Truth - Germany and dissolved - together with this grand lodge in 1996.
