Since the founding of the Humberg company as a forge and machine factory in 1882, the company has been active in the field of metal processing. Initially, the focus was on the manufacture and repair of agricultural machinery. Half a century later, the company was expanded to include a gray cast iron foundry and in 1926 the first cupola furnace was put into operation. Since then, the Humberg company has been active in the metal and art foundry sector. In this initial phase, mainly products that were needed in the agricultural sector were poured. These included stable windows, Göpel and Cambrige rollers . In addition, sewer drains and manhole covers were manufactured using casting technology.

In the spring of 1968, the first aluminum door leaf manufactured by Humberg was exhibited at the Hanover Fair . Subsequently, by the end of the 1970s, the company advanced to become the market leader in the manufacture of decorative door leaves and design elements for house doors. At the same time, the company switched from gray cast iron to cast aluminum and the old cupola furnace was finally demolished in 1972, which ended the time of cast iron processing at Humberg. Since then, the company's production focus has been on cast aluminum and bronze, as well as site design and tree protection .

In the field of art casting, the reproduction of lights and bollards based on historical models is an important sub-area. The replicas are made by molding the originals and then hand-cast. Because Humberg is "the only company in Germany that molds, casts and paints replicas true to the original" , the company makes an important contribution to the preservation of historical design classics, such as the ham lamp , designed by the Berlin architect and builder Karl Friedrich Schinkel .

In addition, the Humberg company has produced a wide variety of individually designed large sculptures and fountains, among others by contemporary artists such as Georg Engst . For example, the large sculpture knot with the theme of Speicherstraße, Haken, Oesen, Knot, Schlingen was created in Hamburg, which consists of 32 bronze parts with a total weight of over 2 tons. The execution of the well cylinders, also manufactured by Humberg, for the artist's installation on Hamburg's Deichstrasse is highlighted as particularly elegant in the book Water As Environmental Art - Creating Amenity Space .

The Humberg company was also involved in the manufacture of the gold-brine fountain in Halle (Saale) . “The base is made up of six bronze plates, which enable access and functionality even in winter. 78 slit-shaped openings in the plates symbolize the salt springs scattered throughout the city. A golden shimmer is created by the gold bowls underneath. Salt water comes to the surface from 20 water nozzles, analogous to the “brine springs”.

In 1996 Humberg also made the cast parts for the Alcina clock on Jahnplatz in Bielefeld . This clock has now become one of the local landmarks and is also shown on the official website of the city of Bielefeld .

Tree protection systems

As a member of the Forschungsgesellschaft Landschaftsentwicklung Landschaftsbau (FLL) , Humberg offers products specially designed for the protection of urban trees .

In addition to tree protection grids, which are offered in cooperation with the Buderus company , Humberg produces tree protection grids and tree protection rings that protect the visible part of the tree from mechanical influences. In addition, underfloor gratings and root bridges are manufactured at Humberg. These prevent soil compaction underground in the root area of street trees and thus prevent long-term and permanent damage caused by the weight of cars or trucks.
