Humboldt Institute
The Humboldt Institute - Association for German as a Foreign Language eV is a non-profit association based in Ratzenried Castle (municipality of Argenbühl ) in West Allgäu, which was founded in 1977.
It offers lessons in German as a foreign language for adults, young people and children at 18 course locations in Germany , including accommodation and meals. The target group are people who want to come to Germany to learn German. The association follows the principle that the easiest way to learn a foreign language is to live in the motherland of this language for a while.
The facility has a focus on summer courses when there are holidays in most countries. These are offered at 14 locations in Germany and Austria. Year-round German courses for adults and managers are offered in Konstanz and Berlin, and German courses for children and young people in Lindenberg im Allgäu and Bad Schussenried .
In addition to German courses, the institute offers standardized exams such as TestDaF and Telc GmbH, as well as advice and applications for attending a boarding school or studying in Germany.
The institute is a member of the German as a Foreign Language Association (fadaf) .
The long-standing director is Norbert Güthling, who acquired Ratzenried Castle in 1974. Initially, German courses were only held there, but the institute expanded in the following decades. So far, a total of around 70,000 students from 160 countries have taken German courses at the Humboldt Institute.
