The Humboldttempel , also known as the Humboldtgasse Synagogue , was an association synagogue of the Israelite Temple and School Association for the 10th district in the Vienna district of Favoriten . The building at Humboldtgasse 27 directly on Humboldtplatz was built in 1895/1896 according to plans by Jakob Gartner and destroyed in 1938 during the November pogrom.

history

The Israelite Temple and School Association for the 10th District or Temple Association Favoriten was founded in 1876. Benjamin Seher was chairman, and David Löwy, Aron Levi Mandel and Albert Weiner ordained as rabbis . The ceremonial keystone laying of the synagogue took place on May 10, 1898.

building

The synagogue was a central domed building with neo-Romanesque style elements and several onion domes. 428 seats were available on the ground floor and 277 in the galleries .
