Humptulips is a census-designated place (CDP) in Grays Harbor County in the state of Washington ( United States ). In 2000 the place had 216 inhabitants.

Humptulips is used in Tom Robbins ' novel Another Roadside Attraction by monks as a starting point for assassinations .
Demographics
At the time of the United States Census 2000, 216 people lived in the place. The population density was 8.8 people per km ². There were 93 housing units at an average of 9.8 per km ². The town's population was 79.17% White , 3.24% Native American , 0.93% Asian , 11.57% said they belonged to other races , and 5.09% said they were two or more races. 13.89% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latino of any race.
The residents of Humptulips are distributed in 81 households out of which 39.5% had children under the age of 18. 55.6% of households were married, 11.1% had a female head of the household without a husband and 24.7% were not families. 16.0% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 1.2% of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 2.87 people.

origin of the name
The name Humptulips probably comes from the language of a local Indian tribe and refers either to the Humptulips River, which is difficult to navigate and which the indigenous people found difficult to navigate with their canoes , or, according to other sources, the word means "cool area". The name of the place also represents a phonetic ambiguity in English that alludes to oral sex .
