Húsar [ ˈhʉusaɹ ] ( Danish name : Husum ) is a place in the Faroe Islands on the north island of Kalsoy . The place Húsar is located on the east coast of the island and is its oldest place. In September 2016 there were 37 inhabitants in Húsar. The zip code is FO-796.

The place appears for the first time in written documents around 1350 to 1400 in the so-called dog letter , together with the village of Mikladalur further north . The present stone church was built in 1920. Húsar is connected to the regional center of Klaksvík on Borðoy by the small car ferry "M / F Sam" that runs two to three times a day and calls at Syðradalur (ferry connection 56 Klaksvík - Syðradalur ) . Bus route 506, which runs between Syðradalur and Trøllanes , stops in Húsar several times a day.

Húsar

The place belongs to the Faroese community of the same name Húsar ( Húsa kommuna ). This also includes the southern village of Syðradalur including the abandoned place Blankskáli . The 17 square kilometers large municipal area covers the entire southern half of the island of Kalsoy. In 2002 the community still had 68 inhabitants, in autumn 2016 only 43 people lived here. Already in 2012 and again in 2015 the municipal council discussed the merger with the Klaksvík municipality. At the beginning of 2016, the merger with the Klaksvík municipality was also approved by the local city council and was implemented on January 1, 2017.

Mayor has been Magni Garðalíð vom Fólkaflokkurin since 2012 , who carried out this task between 2005 and 2008.
