Husfliden , from Norwegian husflid ( home industry ) , is an association of Norwegian artisans who sell their products in their own retail chain .

history

The foundation of the association goes back to the 19th century. As a result of the Industrial Revolution , Norwegian handicraft traditions should be preserved. The board of directors of the Kunstindustrimuseet (Kunstgewerbemuseum) took the initiative in 1886 and founded the Norsk Husflids Bolag (Norwegian Crafts Society) and in 1889 the Foreningen til National textil Kunstflid (Association of National Textile Crafts ) , while HK Frølich founded the Norsk Husflids Venner (Norwegian Craftsmen) in 1889 . In 1891 the three associations agreed to merge to form the Husfliden association . Husfliden moved into his own business in 1892 at Kristianiaer Carl Johansgate 27 and from there organized an extensive production of handicrafts in private households throughout Norway. This was an important additional source of income for the residents of the rural areas. The store became a model for stores in other cities in Norway and by 1899 there were branches in Bergen , Trondheim , Stavanger and Kristiansand . Norges Husflidslag, under the patronage of Queen Sonja , today consists of an association of 400 groups, including the Norwegian Crafts Association (Norske Husflidsforening), with more than 20,000 members and 37 branches in towns and villages. Husflidslag makes an important contribution to the preservation of traditional crafts in Norway.

Product range

The product range includes fabrics, knitting and ironwork, carvings, painting as well as the material and production of over 400 different costumes of Norway. Husfliden takes part in exhibitions at home and abroad, employs designers, works with architects and provides inspiration for the entire Scandinavian designer movement.
