Huyghe is a Belgian private brewery in the East Flemish municipality of Melle . The brewery is a member of the Belgian Family Brewers .

history

A demonstrable brewing tradition has existed in the municipality of Melle since 1654; From this time on the beer was brewed in the so-called Appelhoek . After Léon Huyghe had settled in Melle in 1902, he bought this brewery in 1906 and renamed it Brouwerij-Mouterij den Appel . The construction of new brewery buildings began in 1936 and the family business operated under the name Leon Huyghe Ltd from 1938 . In 1939 the new company building and the brewery were completed, which are still in use today. In 1985 the brewery was extensively rebuilt and the first decision to export the beer produced was made. In 1989 Huyghe developed the beer Delirium tremens - today his most internationally known beer - which was nominated in 1997 by Stuart A. Kallen as "the best beer in the world". In 1992 Huyghe took over the Belgian breweries Campus , St. Idesbald and vielle Villers ; In 1994 the Damy brewery from Olsene was added. In 1996 the Huyghe brewery family had a brewery museum built on their company premises in Melle. In 2008 a total annual production of 100,000 hectoliters of beer was achieved. At the end of April 2012, newly built breweries were put into operation.
