The Hvítserkur: looks like a troll with his head bowed to the left

The Hvítserkur ( isl. "White coat", because it is colored white by bird excrement) is a basalt rock on the east coast of the Vatnsnes peninsula in northwest Iceland .

The approximately 15 m high rock, which is hollowed out in two places, is located on Húnafjörður and is a nesting place for various species of birds, such as the kittiwake and the fulmar .

According to an Icelandic legend, the rock is said to be a troll who was petrified by the sun when he pelted the Þingeyrar monastery with stones.

In 1990, an Icelandic postage stamp worth 25 Icelandic kroner with the motif of Hvítserkur was published.
