Lists on the subject

The Hwasong-13 , sometimes also called Rodong-C , also known as KN-08 by Western intelligence services and NATO , is a three-stage North Korean ballistic ICBM that is still in development. A further development under the same name Hwasong-13 is carried out by western services under the name KN-14.

development

The Hwasong-13 seems to be a North Korean in-house development. Previous reports suggest that the engines should match those of the Nodong first stage. The use of 4D10 engines from old SS-N-6 rockets imported from Russia is now suspected . So far, something has only been known about the possible configuration of the first stage; there are no references to the two other stages. The rocket is housed mobile on the all -terrain WS51200 -16 × 12- truck , pictures are reminiscent of Belarusian MAZ vehicles as they are used for the Topol-M .

Further development

Under the previous name Hwasong-13, a significantly modified missile has been presented in North Korea since 2015. On a military parade only two steps could be seen, but the rocket appeared more compact. It may be a completely new design. In NATO and Western intelligence services, this type is referred to as KN-08 Mod 2 or KN-14 , with KN-14 making more sense as it appears to be a completely new missile.

testing

Although the rocket has been seen several times at military parades since 2012, no test flight has taken place so far. However, stationary tests of the first engine stage could be observed. Some analysts suspect that two launch attempts in 2016, which were originally attributed to the testing of BM25 Musudan , were in fact first attempts with the Hwasong-13.
