Hafenspitze Düsseldorf is the name given to an ensemble of two towers on a base structure in the Medienhafen Düsseldorf, completed in 2010 .

Buildings

The ensemble is designed as a cube with a third of the volume missing from the center. There is a staircase and a water basin, under the glazed floor there is a conference room. The east tower with 19 floors is used by the Hotel Hyatt Regency Düsseldorf with 290 hotel rooms and 13 suites. The 17-storey west tower serves as an office building. The surrounding plinth of the ensemble is open to the public. A pedestrian bridge called The Living Bridge connects the Hafenspitze with the commercial port opposite, including the Zollhof .

While the facade is rather reserved, the hotel has an “elaborate and fashionable interior”.

The buildings are classified according to the standards of the German Sustainable Building Council with the predicate "Silver".

History: planning and construction

The architects were selected in 2001 in a bidding process among six international offices. The Düsseldorf architects JSK were finally chosen as the winner of the competition in 2003 and received the project contract. On May 2, 2007, Hyatt signed the management contract for the hotel in Düsseldorf.

Construction work on the complex began in February 2008, and the foundation stone for the hotel was laid on October 17, 2008. In November 2009, the topping-out ceremony took place when the shell was completed. The hotel celebrated its soft opening on December 15, 2010, and numerous celebrities were present at the hotel's opening ceremony on February 11, 2011.
