Hydnophytum formicarum is a plant species from the genus Hydnophytum and at the same time the type species of the genus.

features

Hydnophytum formicarum is an epiphytic small shrub with a spherical tuber, which reaches up to 25 centimeters in diameter. The simple or slightly branched shoots are up to 20 centimeters long. The elliptical to broadly lanceolate leaves sit on a 4 millimeter long stem and are 7 to 10 inches long and up to 5 inches wide. The tip of the leaf is rounded. The leaf blade branches into 7 to 12 lateral veins . The elliptical tips of the white corolla are drawn together like a hood. The orange-colored fruits are 6 to 7 millimeters in diameter.

Occurrence

Hydnophytum formicarum occurs from Indochina to New Guinea.
