Hydroxypropyl guar hydroxypropyl trimethyl ammonium chloride

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hydroxypropylguarhydroxypropyltrimethylammoniumchlorid ( INCI designation HYDROXYPROPYL, guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride ) is a quaternary ammonium salt , which in cosmetic is used products. The substance is one of the polymers . The associated CAS number is 71329-50-5.

Manufacturing

Starting from guar gum (main component: guar gum ) is obtained by alkali-catalyzed etherification with propylene oxide first hydroxypropyl obtained, which in a further step with analog glycidyltrimethylammonium reacted to the final product. The ether functions thus generated are non-specifically distributed over the oxygen functions of the polysaccharide.

use

The substance is mainly found in cosmetic formulations, including above all in shampoos , shower gels and foam baths . Here it has a hair conditioning and antistatic effect . Hydroxypropylguarhydroxypropyltrimethylammonium chloride is primarily intended to ensure easy combability and a soft skin feel. It is still used as a foaming agent and has moderate to good skin tolerance.

toxicology

The median lethal dose LD 50 is 12 g · kg -1 at peroral administration to rats . Drowsiness , hypoventilation, and tremors occurred during the experiment .
