Luma from Flesch-Brunningen
Luma von Flesch-Brunningen (also Ludmilla Flesch-Bruningenowá, Luma von Csúzy, born August 31, 1856 in Brno , † 1934 in Munich ) was a Czech painter who worked in Austria and Germany.
Luma von Flesch-Brunningen married the Hungarian painter Karoly Csúzy (1844–1911). She began her training in Brno in the painting school of Josef Zelený (1824–1886) and continued with Alois Schönn in Vienna . She accompanied her master on a study trip to Italy and North Africa . From 1887 she studied in Munich, for a year with Frithjof Smith-Hald , then with Franz Xaver Simm .
She mainly painted genre pictures such as “Devotion”, “Homeless”, “The Vesperbrot”, “At School”, “Under the Cross”, “Martyr” and “Repentance”.
Her work "The Anointing of Witches", exhibited in Munich's Glaspalast in 1902 , brought her recognition. Works by her are in the collections of the museums in Brno and in the Lenbachhaus in Munich .
