The Hyland River is a left tributary of the Liard River in Canada's Yukon Territory and British Columbia Province .
The Hyland River rises in the Selwyn Mountains in the southeast of the Yukon Territory. It flows in a southerly direction through the mountains. From the confluence with the Little Hyland River , the Nahanni Range Road runs about 70 km along the river. The river meanders strongly in the middle reaches. The Hyland River takes on the Stewart Creek and Green River tributaries . The last 20 kilometers the river runs in the province of British Columbia. The Hyland River finally flows into the Liard River 20 km southeast of Lower Post . The British Columbia Highway 97 ( Alaska Highway ) crosses the Hyland River at river kilometer 15. Here is the 23-hectare Hyland River Provincial Park ( ⊙ ).
The Hyland River has a length of about 380 km. Its catchment area covers 9450 km². The mean discharge is 136 m³ / s.
Multi -day whitewater canoe tours are available on the Hyland River . The Hyland River has rapids with difficulty levels II – III. However, the majority of the rapids fall into Category I.
