The flower stalk is 1.5 to 3 inches long, with protruding straight or hook-shaped hair. The calyx is 2.5 to 3.5 millimeters long, as long or longer than the tube. The crown is red to orange-red, usually broadly elliptical, nailed short and 8 to 10 millimeters long and 7 to 8 millimeters wide. The nailed wings are narrow elliptical, 7 millimeters long and 2 millimeters wide, the boat is also nailed, 10 millimeters long and 3 millimeters wide. The fruit is a pod with often three or four compartments.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 22.
