Hyotan Ike (from Japanese ひ ょ う た ん 池 'bottle gourd' ) is a lake on the Prince Harald Coast of Queen Maud Land in East Antarctica . It is located on the Skarvsnes peninsula on the east bank of Lützow-Holm-Bucht on the southern elevation of Kizahashi Beach .
Japanese scientists named it in 2012 based on its shape, which is reminiscent of a bottle gourd .
