Căpâlniţa [ kəpɨlnit͡sa ] (deprecated Olafalăul Mic ; Hungarian Kápolnásfalu ) is a commune in Harghita County , in the region of Transylvania in Romania .

The place is also known by the Hungarian names Kápolnásoláhfalu and Kicsioláhfalu .

Căpâlnița is located in the southern foothills of the Harghita Mountains - a part of the Eastern Carpathians - in the historical region of Szeklerland in the southern half of the Harghita district. At the Homorodul Mic , a source river of the Homorod , and the national road DN13A , the place Căpâlnița is about 20 kilometers east of the town Odorheiu Secuiesc (Oderhellen) and about 30 kilometers west of the district capital Miercurea Ciuc (Szeklerburg) .

history

The place Căpâlnița, mostly inhabited by Szeklern people, was first mentioned in 1567 or 1722, according to various sources. There are no archaeological finds in the area of ​​Căpâlnițas.

At the time of the Kingdom of Hungary , Căpâlnița belonged to the Udvarhely district in the Udvarhely County ( Romanian Comitatul Odorhei ), then to the historical Odorhei district and from 1950 to the present Harghita district. Until 1968, the village of Băile Homorod belonged to Căpâlnița , which was then administratively assigned to the small town of Vlăhița (Wlachendorf) .

There used to be several sawmills along the Homorod stream . The villagers mainly work as shindlers and wood carvers . Their houses are brightly painted and have carved wooden furniture.

There are 869 properties in the village, 94% of which are connected to the electricity network, 80% to the drinking water network and 78.8% to the sewage network.

Since 1850, the area of ​​Căpâlnița has had the highest population (2,140) and that of the Magyars (2,119) in 1941. The highest number of Romanians was registered in 1977, that of Roma (81) in 2011 and that of Romanian Germans one each in 1930 and 1956. Furthermore, one Slovak was registered between 1930 and 1966 .

The main occupation of the population today is agriculture and wood processing. Many male villagers are also employed in the metal industry in the area.

Attractions

  • The Catholic Church was built in 1797 on the site of a chapel that was destroyed in 1710.
  • The place is also the starting point for the summit Mădăraș ( 1801  m ) in the Harghita Mountains.

After 1989, Căpâlnița maintained partnerships with the Hungarian towns of Bercel in Nógrád county , with Gyöngyössolymos and Kápolna in Heves county and with Kötegyán in Békés county .
