Bradesti [ brədeʃtʲ ] (deprecated Fenied , Fened or Brad ; Hungarian Fenyéd ) is a commune in Harghita County , in the region of Transylvania in Romania .

Geographical location

The municipality of Brădeşti is located in the western foothills of the Harghita Mountains - a part of the Eastern Carpathian Mountains - in the historical region of Szeklerland in the southern half of the Harghita district. At the mouth of the Brădeşti brook , into the Târnava Mare (Great Kokel) and the national road DN13A , the place Brădeşti is five kilometers northeast of the town of Odorheiu Secuiesc (Oderhellen) and about 50 kilometers west of the district capital Miercurea Ciuc (Szeklerburg) .

The nearest train station is in Odorheiu Secuiesc on the Sighișoara – Odorheiu Secuiesc railway line .

history

The place Brădeşti, mostly inhabited by Szeklern people, was first mentioned in a document in 1333. There are no archaeological finds on the territory of the current parish.

At the time of the Kingdom of Hungary Brădeşti belonged to the Udvarhely district in the Udvarhely County ( Romanian Comitatul Odorhei ), then to the historical Odorhei district and from 1950 to the present Harghita district. Until 2004, today's neighboring municipality of Satu Mare was part of the municipality of Brădeşti.

Beautifully carved wooden gates can be seen in both villages of the municipality.

The highest number of inhabitants has been recorded in the area of ​​today's municipality since 1850 and that of the Magyars and Romanians in 2011. The highest number of Roma (6) was registered in 1941 and that of Romanian Germans in 1930.
