Dăneşti ( Hungarian Csíkdánfalva or Dánfalva ) is a municipality in Harghita County in Transylvania , Romania . Until 2002, it was part of a somewhat larger municipality in the Szeklerland along with the surrounding villages .
history
The place was first mentioned in 1567 as Danffalwa and 1576 as Dánfalva. Its name comes from Hungarian and means "Daniel's village". Until 1919 the Romanian name was Danfalău, which was then changed to the current official name. Szeklern people have lived there since ancient times .
geography
Dăneşti is located in the central part of the Felcsíki basin, surrounded by the Csíki Mountains and the Harghita volcanic line in the east of Transylvania only a few kilometers north of Miercurea Ciuc .
economy
The manufacture of black ceramics, wool carpets and woven tablecloths is famous. There is also animal husbandry and wood processing.
Infrastructure
The place is on the Siculeni – Gheorgheni railway and the 578 European route .
Town twinning
The two twin cities are Solt (since 2005) and Tevel , both in Hungary .
