Zetea (outdated Zătea or Zetelaca ; Hungarian Zeteleka ) is a municipality in Harghita County , in the Transylvania region in Romania .

The municipality of Zetea is located in the east of northern Transylvania in the southwestern foothills of the Harghita Mountains - a part of the Eastern Carpathians - in the historical region of Szeklerland . In the southern half of the Harghita district on the upper reaches of the Târnava Mare (Great Kokel) and the district road (drum județean) DJ 138, the place Zetea is eleven kilometers north of the town of Odorheiu Secuiesc (Oderhellen) and about 53 kilometers west of the district capital Miercurea Ciuc (Szeklerburg) ) removed.

history

The place Zetea, mostly inhabited by Szeklern people, was first mentioned in 1333. According to the register of historical monuments of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (Ministerul Culturii și Patrimoniului Național) , a stone wall, a mound and a moat are assigned to the Latène period on the area of ​​the incorporated village Sub Cetate ( Zeteváralja in Hungarian ), called Déság . There are no other archaeological finds on the territory of the municipality of Zetea.

At the time of the Kingdom of Hungary , Zetea belonged to the Udvarhely district in the Udvarhely County ( Romanian Comitatul Odorhei ), then to the historical Odorhei district and from 1950 to the present Harghita district.

Several cultural and sports activities are carried out in the municipality of Zetea. The community also offers various activities for the integration of Roma children .

The Zetea area has had the highest population since 1850 and the Magyar population in 1977. The highest number of Romanians (50) was registered in 1992, that of Roma (94) and that of Romanian Germans in 1930.

Attractions

  • In the community center the house and the wooden gate of the property Csiki Zsigmond ‐ ne built in 1850 and the wooden gate of the property in St. Principală No. 169, built in the 19th century, is a listed building.
  • In the incorporated village of Sub Cetate there is a watermill, built in 1854, a listed building.
  • The Catholic Church in Zetea was built between 1912 and 1914 and is one of the largest churches in the region. The baroque altar and the round window with a diameter of 71 cm come from the medieval church on which it was built .
  • The reservoir Sub Cetate with the dam Zetea is located in the area of ​​the incorporated village Sub Cetate. The dam was built from 1977 to 1993. The reservoir is fed by the Târnava Mare and the Șicasău stream, has an area of ​​about 140 hectares and is 20 to 30 meters deep.
  • The municipality of Zetea is also the starting point for the Mădăraş summit ( 1801  m ) in the Harghita Mountains.

  • Ferenc Máthé (1894–1970), was a Hungarian church clerk and editor.
  • Fortunát Boros (1895–1953), was a Hungarian writer, Franciscan monk and a political prisoner.

The municipality of Zetea has partnerships with thirteen localities. Eleven of them are the Hungarian towns of Balatonfenyves , Balatonföldvár , Bozsok , Darnózseli , Derekegyház , Gyöngyöspata , Kismaros , Kismányok , Nagymányok , Tiszanána and Sárbogárd , and the French town of Aigueblanche and the Slovak town of Tvrdoša .
