Dealu (obsolete Rus or Rusomontan ; Hungarian Oroszhegy ) is a commune in Harghita County , in the region of Transylvania in Romania .

Geographical location

Location of Dealu Township in Harghita County

The municipality of Dealu is located in the east of northern Transylvania in the southwestern foothills of the Harghita Mountains - a part of the Eastern Carpathian Mountains - in the historical region of Szeklerland . In the southern half of the Harghita district in the valley of the Bosnyak brook , a right tributary of the Târnava Mare (Great Kokel) and the county road (drum județean) DJ 134A, the place Dealu is ten kilometers north of the town of Odorheiu Secuiesc (Oderhellen) and about 55 kilometers west from the district capital Miercurea Ciuc (Szeklerburg) away.

history

Dealu, which is mostly inhabited by Szeklers , was first mentioned in a document in 1334.

In the area of the community center on the Deskö hill near Cetatea Macului (in Hungarian : Mákvár ) four kilometers northeast of Dealu, according to the register of historical monuments of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (Ministerul Culturii și Patrimoniului Național), a fortress from the Bronze Age is mentioned. An earth wall is mentioned between the hills Tăietura (Vészdomb) and Balta Tăieturii (Vészmocsár) , whereby G. Téglás is of the opinion that this can be assigned to Roman times . At Dealul Mănăstirii (Hungarian Kápolnadomb ) there is a round watchtower with a diameter of eight meters and is assigned to Roman times.

Also on the site of unincorporated village Tibod (Hungarian Tibod ) a watch tower 826 and coins of the Roman period is assigned.

At the time of the Kingdom of Hungary , Dealu belonged to the Udvarhely district in the Udvarhely County ( Romanian Comitatul Odorhei ), then to the historical Odorhei district and from 1950 to the present Harghita district.

Since 1850, the highest number of inhabitants (4,848) and that of the Magyars (4,791) and the Roma (45) in 1941 were recorded in the area of the municipality . The highest number of Romanians was registered in 1956 and that of Romanian Germans in 1930.

Attractions

In Dealu the Catholic Church was built according to different information in 1748 or 1770 and was enlarged from 1937 to 1940. The big bell was made in 1898.
In the incorporated village of Sâncrai (Székelyszentkirály) the Catholic church built in 1798/99, has a stone sacrament house and the baptismal font comes from an earlier church that was destroyed during the Tatar invasion .
