Idstedter enclosure

The Idstedter enclosure (also Idstedtwege , Danish Isted Skov ) denotes an approximately 196 hectares to the communities Idstedt and Neuberend belonging and north of the town of Schleswig situated forest . As a state forest , the forest is looked after by the Schleswig-Holstein State Forests, a small part in the south is under private owners as a farming forest . The European long-distance hiking trail E1 leads through the forest . In the Danish period the forest area was under the second Gottorf forest rider district ( 2nd gottorpske skovriderdistrikt ).

The forest is located on a terminal moraine with heights of up to 50 m and thus stands out clearly in the landscape. In the east the forest merges into the approximately 29 hectare forest area around the 56 m high Karenberg ( Karnbjerg ). To the west of the forest adjacent to the already to the municipality Lürschau belonging small lakes Bocksee ( Bogso ) and Reethsee ( Rørsø ). At the southern edge of the forest near the Schleswiger Chausee is the large stone grave robbers cave . In the southeast, the meadow lowlands adjoin the Königsdammau . In the east towards the Langsee the forest area continues as Grüder Holz ( Grydeskov ). The Idstedter Forest is covered in roughly equal parts with deciduous and coniferous forest. In the mixed forest, oak , beech , spruce and larch are predominant. The area is a breeding area for buzzards , hawks , sparrowhawks and tawny owls . A special feature is the regular breeding of the black woodpecker . The forest area is also a habitat for fallow deer.

The Idstedter Gehege is part of the Schlei Nature Park as well as the FFH area 1324-391 (Wellspanger-Loiter-Oxbek-System and adjacent forests (FFH area)) designated north and north-east of Schleswig .
