Sânsimion or old spelling Sînsimion [ ˈsɨnsimion ] (outdated Sântsimon or Simoneşti ; Hungarian Csíkszentsimon or Szentsimon ) is a municipality in Harghita County in Transylvania , Romania .

Geographical location

Location of Sânsimion in Harghita County

The municipality of Sânsimion is located in the Eastern Carpathians in the historical Szeklerland on the upper reaches of the Olt ( Alt ) river. On the left bank of the Alt, on the county road ( drum județean ) DJ 123A and the railway line Sfântu Gheorghe-Siculeni-Adjud , the place is about 12 kilometers southeast of the district capital Miercurea Ciuc ( Szeklerburg ).

The highest population of today's municipality - and at the same time that of Hungarians - was 1977; that of the Romanians (62) in 1956, that of the Germans in 1930 and that of the Roma (81) in 1966.
