Hypsoprora is a genus of humpback chirps that occur in South and Central America and the USA. 23 types are described. In the USA the genus is represented by H. nogolata and H. simplex . Several species occur in Mexico, H. coronata is known from many countries, from Argentina and Brazil to Central America and Mexico.

The Hypsoprora cicadas are relatively small, with a body length of approx. 3 to 6 mm. Their surface is very rough, with small spikes and dots. The pronotum has a more or less long process to the front, and the process to the rear usually has a hump. The animals are yellowish or brown, some species are almost completely dark in color, mostly with lighter markings. The forewings are coarse in the basal area and have cusps and dots.

The species of Hypsoprora are often very similar to those of Phylia , but these are larger and the anterior process is usually longer. The rough surface structure is similar to that of the genus Notocera , but these have two "horns" to the front.

Very little is known about the way of life. The species are mostly solitary, but aggregations have also been described. The species of this genus occur on very different plants.
