" I'll Remember April " was first sung by Dick Foran in 1942 when it was featured in the Abbott and Costello comedy film Ride 'Em Cowboy . Despite the failure of the song in the film, many jazz fans took notice of him. Ride 'Em Cowboy was one of the films of the period in which singers made short appearances; and Ella Fitzgerald played with her hit song " A Tisket A Tasket with".

" I'll Remember April " was then recorded by Woody Herman and his orchestra, hit the pop charts in March 1942 and rose to # 23. With its unusual melody, " I'll Remember April " was never really successful in popular music despite it early recordings of Martha Tilton , Bing Crosby and the Nat "King" Cole Trio with singer Anita Boyer.

After that the song was interpreted by many artists of popular music such as jazz ; Among the early versions, that of Miles Davis and Horace Silver 1954 stands out. Also Cannonball Adderley , Chet Baker / Stan Getz , Eric Dolphy , Keith Jarrett ( Tokyo '96 ), Lee Konitz , Charlie Parker , Sonny Rollins , Benny Golson , Charles Mingus , Red Norvo , Joe Pass , Mel Tormé , Sarah Vaughan and Teddy Wilson interpreted the song.
