I'm Old Fashioned is a composition by Jerome Kern , with lyrics by Johnny Mercer from 1942.

The song was for the film You were never captivating ( You Were Never Lovelier , 1942) written in which he Nan Wynn (instead of the actress Rita Hayworth ) and Fred Astaire sang. The first recording of the title was released in 1942 by Astaire, accompanied by John Scott Trotter and his orchestra.

The title was made possible through recordings by Ella Fitzgerald ( Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Jerome Kern Songbook , 1963), John Coltrane ( Blue Train , 1957) and Stan Getz , and Chet Baker , Art Farmer , Oscar Peterson , Bud Shank , Bob Brookmeyer and others to a jazz standard . Keith Jarrett's Standards Trio recorded him performing live at the Blue Note in 1995 .
