The International Data Group ( IDG ), based in Boston , USA , is a global provider of technology media, data, conference and marketing services, and direct marketing. IDG emerged in 1964 from the market research company International Data Corporation (IDC), also founded by Patrick J. McGovern († 2014). As the owner of IDG, McGovern turned it into an international service provider for cross-media communication solutions for classic technology companies and companies that are following the path of digitization. In 1996, the company started an international network of venture capital funds under IDG Ventures.

IDG Communications Media AG , based in Munich, is the German subsidiary of IDG . IDG Communications Media AG is a 100 percent subsidiary of IDG Inc., Boston. The board of directors of the German AG is York von Heimburg . In Germany, IDG acts as a service provider for the ICT industry and all other industries in the digital transformation.

The German-speaking IDG portfolio includes the media brands COMPUTERWOCHE , ChannelPartner, CIO, PC-Welt , Macwelt .
