IFK Grängesberg

IFK Grängesberg is a Swedish alliance club from Grängesberg , which is made up of four sports clubs specializing in different sports.

history

IFK Grängesberg was founded in 1905. At first, winter sports and soccer were in the foreground, later sports such as swimming , handball and volleyball were added. After the activities in these sports as well as ice hockey , bandy , athletics and orienteering were discontinued, sports clubs for soccer, alpine skiing , cycling and cross-country skiing still exist today under the umbrella of the alliance club that was established in early 2007. With Erik Lundqvist , the club also provides an Olympic champion.

Cross-country skiing

The club's ski division produced several runners who were successful nationwide. Outstanding among them is Margit Nordin , who was the first woman to finish the Wasalauf in 1923 . However, after the competition ended, it was decided that women were not officially allowed to participate.

Soccer

At first, the IFK Grängesberg soccer team won their third division season in 1932 and rose to the second division together with Brynäs IF . Initially placed two seasons in the middle of the table, the club rose again in 1935 as bottom of the table together with IF Rune . In the third division, the team repeated their relay victory and moved into the promotion games against Söderhamns IF , which the team won. Again, the team held three seasons in the country's second-highest division, before being relegated to bottom of the league again after only two wins of the season at the end of the season. Initially, she was again in the top group of the third division, as runner-up behind Avesta AIK in 1941 and 1942, respectively, she narrowly missed the promotion round again. After relegation to the fourth division in the summer of 1945, the club returned to the third division in 1953. Then the club played again for promotion to the second division, which they came closest to with the runner-up again behind Avesta AIK 1958. After several years in the middle of the table, the club slipped on a relegation zone in 1963 and said goodbye to higher-class football.
