IMC UNESCO Music Prize
The IMC-UNESCO Music Prize was awarded from 1975 to 2005 by the International Music Council (IMC), from 1978 in collaboration with UNESCO . The prize was awarded in five categories: composition, performance, musicology / music journalism, music education and to “public figures who have played an important role locally or internationally in more than one area of music” or to “institutions for their activities in the service of music. "
Initially, the award ceremony took place every two years at different locations, e.g. B. Paris , Stockholm , Alicante . From 1994 to 2005 the prize was awarded annually in Aachen . The ceremony took place in the coronation hall of the Aachen town hall. The winners received a certificate, the Unesco Picasso-Miro Medal and 2,500 euros. Previous winners include Yehudi Menuhin , Leonard Bernstein , Herbert von Karajan , Cesária Évora , Mercedes Sosa , the International Bach Academy Stuttgart , Oscar Peterson , Maria João Pires , Mikis Theodorakis and Youssou N'Dour .
