IOC-1

IOK-1 is one of the most distant galaxies currently known . It was discovered in April 2006 by Masanori Iye of the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan with the Subaru telescope in Hawaii in the constellation Haar der Berenike . Investigations of the Lyman alpha line showed a redshift of 6.96, which corresponds to an age of 12.95 billion years (only 750 million years after the Big Bang ). In September 2010, the even more distant galaxy UDFy-38135539 was discovered in the Hubble Ultra Deep Field . Previously, IOK-1 was considered the most distant known galaxy.
