The IR-class NDM-5 is a narrow gauge - diesel locomotive of Indian State Railways (IR) with hydraulic power transmission . The Chittaranjan Locomotive Works built eleven locomotives between 1987 and 1989. Many parts of the locomotive are identical to the ZDM-5 diesel locomotive for 762 mm gauge. The locomotive can be used on all 610mm lines except the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway and the Matheran Hill Railway . It is used on the Gwalior Light Railway (GLR).

technology

The four-axle diesel locomotive has a central driver's cab with a short and long front end. The 6-cylinder four-stroke engine from Cummins , built under license by Kirloskar in India, drives the cardan shafts leading to the axle drives via a Voith L4r2U2 - 450 transmission . The locomotive is equipped with two compressors that are driven directly by the engine. Between the bogies there are two fuel tanks with a capacity of 350 liters each.

The bogies have a two-stage suspension . The primary suspension is made with coil springs , the secondary suspension with rubber layer springs . As journal bearings are cylindrical roller bearings of FAG used, which leaf springs are connected to the bogie frame. Except for the gauge, the locomotive's bogies are identical to those of the ZDM-3 and ZDM-4 .
