IRAS 08544-4431 ( V390 Velorum ) is a variable star in the constellation Vela at the southern sky , which is about 800 parsecs (2,600 light years) from the sun away. It is a double star system with a Post-AGB star .
properties
The main star of IRAS 08544−4431 is currently evolving from the red giant to the white dwarf , a transition in which a large amount of gas and dust is repelled, later forming a planetary nebula . Interferometric observations revealed that the star is surrounded by a circumstellar disk that extends from 9 to several hundred AU and also includes the companion.
