I Drove All Night is a song originally written for Roy Orbison by Tom Kelly and Billy Steinberg in 1987, which he recorded in 1987, as did John Waite . In 1989 I Drove All Night by Cyndi Lauper was first released on the album A Night to Remember . The earlier recorded version of Roy Orbison was only released as a single in 1991 and on the posthumously released album King of Hearts in 1992 . In 1993 Nino de Angelo published a German cover version with the title Ich fahr die Nacht and in 1997 Karel Gott released the Czech version Nocní král . John Waite released his version in 2001.
The cover version of Celine Dion was the most successful with number 1 placements in Sweden and Canada in 2003.
