Tom Kelly (songwriter)
Thomas F. Kelly is an American musician and songwriter best known for his compositions with Billy Steinberg in the 1980s.
Career
Tom Kelly tried himself as a band musician for a long time, but did not manage to implement his own songs successfully. In the late 1970s he became a songwriter and wrote for REO Speedwagon and Pat Benatar , among others . Then he met Billy Steinberg and formed a very successful songwriting duo with him. Their first big hit together was Like a Virgin , which became a number one hit in the US and gave Madonna the breakthrough. Steinberg and Kelly worked together until the 1990s and wrote numerous chart hits, five of which reached number one in the US. In 2011 both were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame together .
